New Predictions & Fall 2021 Recap: LaBrea & CSI:Vegas Renewed. Our Kind of People, The Big Leap & Ordinary Joe Canceled.

TV Grim Reaper’s predictions are for scripted broadcast primetime show renewals for the 2022-23 season or cancellations by the end of the 2021-22 season.

What Happened In Fall 2021 Scripted Broadcast TV?

La Brea and CSI:Vegas premiered and were renewed!

Our Kind of People, The Big Leap and Ordinary Joe premiered and were canceled!

The CBS & WB Studios changed their behavior for CW show news

Unlike the last 5 seasons, CBS & WB Studios didn’t announce which non-rookie CW shows were in their final season before they premiered. I’m going to predict all non-rookie CW shows get renewed, and will just take a few L’s on the ones that are cancelled.

All this was covered on Twitter (@TVGrimReaper) during the fall, and while that will continue, regular weekly updates to the website start now!

On to the predictions!

ABC shows predicted to be canceled

Queens -second lowest rated ABC scripted show

ABC shows predicted to be renewed

A Million Little Things– lowest rated ABC scripted show, at risk of cancellation, but syndication economics may keep it going.
Home Economics, The Wonder Years  – borderline ratings, stay tuned
The Rookie, Big Sky – low rated, but 10pm shows often survive with far lower ratings than other time slots.
The Goldbergs  – highly rated, but old and expensive, cancellation would not be a surprise.
Grey’s Anatomy  – the show either ends with an announced final season or the lead doesn’t renew her contract, I’m going with the former.
Station 19, The Conners, The Good Doctor  – would be surprised by cancellation

CBS shows predicted to be canceled

Bull  – lowest rated CBS scripted show, it’s in season 6 after which cast contracts often need to be renegotiated, and that often leads to cancellation.
NCIS:LA   – when a cast member says it’s over, it’s almost always over. 1/3 late edit.

CBS shows predicted to be renewed

NCIS, NCIS: LA, Blue Bloods – ratings aren’t a problem, but there is always cancellation danger for these very old expensive CBS dramas, since their (non-public) syndication deals determine their longevity. 1/3 edit: Given the “news” about NCIS:LA, the other two shows are less likely in danger.
FBI, FBI: Most Wanted, FBI: International, B Positive, Bob Hearts Abishola, Magnum, PI, The Neighborhood, SWAT, NCIS: Hawaii, Ghosts, Equalizer,  – would be surprised by cancellation

CW shows predicted to be canceled

None.

CW shows predicted to be renewed

4400 – OK ratings. Is CBS Studios canning their only new CW show this year? I doubt it.
Batwoman, Nancy Drew,, Legends of Tomorrow, Dynasty, In the Dark, Legacies, Riverdale, Roswell, NM, The Flash, Walker, All American – Unlike the last 5 years, CBS & WB Studios didn’t announce which of their CW veteran shows were ending before the season began. Since WB & CBS Studios base their decisions entirely on non-public syndication economics I’ll predict they renew them all, and take a few L’s on the shows they cancel.

Fox shows predicted to be canceled

None.

Fox shows predicted to be renewed

The Resident, 9-1-1 – would be surprised by cancellation

NBC shows predicted to be canceled

None.

NBC shows predicted to be renewed

The Blacklist– NBC’s lowest rated show, but another super cheap deal from Sony could save it for a season 10.
Law & Order: OC – would be surprised by cancellation
