Mixedish is likely to be canceled. Its ratings are borderline, and the prediction is a close call, but ABC is likely to cancel far more than the 2 shows I had previously predicted.
In the 10+ years I’ve been keeping track, ABC has never canceled fewer than 6 scripted shows, and they’ve canceled more than 10 a number of times. I’m currently predicting three will be canceled. Will ABC keep the number historically low in this COVID disrupted year? Maybe! Many ABC shows have *some* reason they *might* be canceled, but no more than 3 say “likely canceled” to me today.
In last week’s news: NBC renewed Young Rock & Kenan.
TV Grim Reaper’s predictions are for scripted broadcast primetime show renewals for the 2021-22 season or cancellations by the end of the 2020-21 season.

ABC shows predicted to be canceled
Call Your Mother – ABC’s lowest rated sitcom
For Life – ABC’s lowest rated scripted show
Mixed-ish – third lowest rated ABC show, but sophomore cancellations are hard to predict, a close call.
ABC shows predicted to be renewed
Rebel – borderline ratings for a rookie show, a close call.
Home Economics – borderline ratings for a rookie show, a close call.
black-ish – ratings are fine, but seven seasons is often a break point for shows when cast contracts need to be re-negotiated, for that reason, a cancellation would not be shocking.
The Rookie, A Million Little Things – third season shows are rarely canceled, no matter the ratings.
The Conners – while third season shows are rarely canceled, the risk to The Conners is what I term a “cast says no/asks for too much money” situation, which is a uniquely annual exercise for this show.
American Housewife – ratings are more than good enough for renewal, but only 13 episodes were made this season. In a normal year, that’s a very negative indicator. In a COVID year, it could be nothing.
The Goldbergs, Grey’s Anatomy, Big Sky (RENEWED 5/4), The Good Doctor (RENEWED 5/3) – ratings in the renewal range.
CBS shows predicted to be canceled
Clarice – CBS’s lowest rated show, by far
The Unicorn – ratings finished borderline, lead signed on to a new AppleTV+ show, only had 13 episodes ordered. Second season cancellations don’t happen often, and a renewal would not be shocking.
All Rise – ratings have drifted down to the borderline, and it’s a WB production, another second season cancellation prediction that’s a close call.
CBS shows predicted to be renewed
B Positive – ratings have moved low in recent weeks, a close call.
SEALTeam– somewhat surprisingly not included in the recent renewals, would be shocked if it was canceled, but there’s definitely a chance now.
United States of Al – Ratings in the renewal range.
CW shows predicted to be canceled
CW shows predicted to be renewed
Kung Fu (RENEWED 5/3) – CW rookie shows have to do terribly to be in any danger of cancellation, its ratings are above the CW average.
Fox shows predicted to be canceled
Prodigal Son – lowest rated of the four Fox dramas.
Fox shows predicted to be renewed
The Resident, Call Me Kat – ratings in the renewal range.
NBC shows predicted to be canceled
Debris – rookie show, very low ratings
Good Girls – lowest rated NBC scripted show, however, the combination of Netflix co-production and CA taxpayer subsidy still might save it
Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist – terrible ratings, again, but similar to the the level of terribleness that got it renewed last year, wouldn’t be shocked if it happened again
NBC shows predicted to be renewed
Manifest – third season shows are rarely canceled, no matter the ratings
Law & Order: OC – ratings in the renewal range
Why no predictions for Fox’s LA’s Finest, Filthy Rich, & NEXT; CBS’s Star Trek Discovery, Manhunt:Deadly Games, & One Day At A Time; CW’s Pandora, The Outpost, Devils, Coroner, & Swamp Thing; and NBC’s Transplant?
All of those shows were either no hope “mid-season” shows from the 2019-20 season delayed into Fall 2020, or shows that had aired “elsewhere” (outside the US, on cable, or on SVOD) and were bought/corporate transferred for Fall 2020 fill in purposes only. None of them have any in-season futures on US broadcast networks, so predictions for them are moot.
- Right: Connecting, The Blacklist, Walker, Batwoman, Nancy Drew, Charmed, Legends of Tomorrow, Dynasty, In the Dark, Legacies, Riverdale, Roswell, NM, The Flash, The Neighborhood, Bob Hears Abishola, Superman & Lois, The Simpsons, Equalizer, Mr. Mayor, FBI, FBI: Most Wanted, Young Sheldon, NCIS, Bull, SWAT, Magnum PI, Blue Bloods, The Moodys, NCIS:LA, Young Rock, Kenan, Kung Fu, The Good Doctor, Big Sky
- Wrong: Superstore, Mom, NCIS: New Orleans, Bless The Harts, MacGyver
Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago, PD, Law & Order: SVU, New Amsterdam, The Great North & This is Us were renewed for the 2021-22 season before their 2020-21 seasons began.
*Renanceled (renewed for a final season):
Supergirl, Black Lightning, Brooklyn Nine-Nine (in 2021-22) & Last Man Standing were renanceled before their seasons began and will end in the 2020-21 season.
