Empirerenewed

Plenty of nonsense was written by the credulous TV press last week when it was announced that low rated Scream Queens was renewed (as was Empire).

Live + 7 ratings lift, blah, blah, the new way we watch TV, blah, blah, keeping Ryan Murphy happy, blah, blah.

All complete nonsense.

Scream Queens was renewed because, except for Wednesday and NFL double header Sundays, Fox Fall 2015 ratings completely collapsed.

The final 6 episodes of Scream Queens failed to reach a 1.0 rating (0.9, 0.9, 0.8, 0.9, 0.9, 0.9) averaging a 0.88.

During those weeks, the Monday, Tuesday & Thursday ratings for all the Fox scripted shows including Scream Queens (0.9, 0.9, 0.8, 0.9, 0.9, 0.9, 0.7, 0.5, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, 0.7, 0.7, 1.0, 1.0, 0.9, 0.9, 0.9, 0.8, 1.1, 1.0, 1.0, 0.9, 1.5, 1.5, 1.4, 1.6) averaged just a 0.96. Kudos to those who guessed that the last 4 ratings were for Gotham, that’s why it’s, of course, certain to be renewed.

Scream Queens was at 92% of Fox’s woeful scripted average during the last weeks of the Fall on Monday, Tuesday & Thursday.  Plenty good enough for renewal, TV media nonsense notwithstanding.

The Reaper Index is the ratio of a scripted show’s new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It’s calculated by dividing a show’s new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show’s own network. The network’s average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.
