TV Grim Reaper predicts potential renewal or cancellation for scripted broadcast primetime shows by the end of the 2015-16 season in May, 2016. (The Reaper Index includes ratings from Dec 27, 2015 – Jan 10, 2016)

New Girl ended its Syndication Gods guaranteed season 4 last spring with ratings in the 0.9-1.1 range, somewhat below the Fox scripted average in that period of 1.1.
Its season 5 didn’t start until January, and while there is some history of older, previously successful sitcoms lasting multiple years in late starting seasons (Community, Rules Of Engagement) that’s not typical. However, its 1.4 premiere rating was above the Fox average scripted rating in Nov/Dec, for that reason, the reaper’s starting his prediction for it at likely renewed. That could change quickly in the next few weeks. Stay tuned.
While Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life and Bordertown ratings jumped following the NFC Wildcard game on Sunday, the reaper’s keeping his prediction for them at “toss up” until he sees ratings from next week.
Don’t put much stock in the Fox Reaper Indexes this week, particularly for their Sunday shows which were wildly boosted by the NFC Wildcard game. They’ll settle down over time.

The Reaper Index is the ratio of a scripted show’s new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It’s calculated by dividing a show’s new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show’s own network. The network’s average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).
(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.
